Dinosaurs in Hytale live deep underground in Zone 4, far away from the sunshine and very close to things that probably want to eat you. In this guide, we will show you where to look, how to get there, and what to expect once you start digging around for prehistoric neighbors.
Where to Start Looking
Dinosaurs are found in a dedicated underground jungle biome that exists beneath Zone 4. This biome is not part of the normal cave system and does not generate in shallow tunnels or surface-level caves.
To find it, you will need to travel deep enough beneath Zone 4 for the underground jungle to generate. If the area still looks like standard stone tunnels or typical cave layouts, you are not there yet. Once the underground jungle appears, the change in environment is noticeable, with new terrain, vegetation, and NPCs that do not appear elsewhere underground.
Dinosaurs spawn naturally within this biome, along with other new NPCs, making exploration of newly generated underground areas the key to finding them.
Why Dinosaurs May Not Appear on Your Server
Dinosaurs were added alongside changes to world generation for the underground jungle biome. Because of this, they will only appear in newly generated underground areas.
If your world or server existed before dinosaurs were added, any underground areas that were already explored will not update to include the underground jungle biome.
To find dinosaurs, you must explore new, unexplored terrain beneath Zone 4 so the updated biome can generate.
This behavior is expected and does not indicate an issue with your server.
