How to Install Mods to your Icarus Server

Adding mods to your Icarus dedicated server can enhance gameplay by introducing new features, mechanics, or visual improvements. Although Icarus does not natively support mods through platforms like the Steam Workshop, you can manually install mods from third-party sources to your dedicated server. Follow this step-by-step guide to how to complete this!

Find Compatible Mods

Since Icarus lacks official modding support, you will need to find mods created by the community. You will only want to use Icarus mods from trusted sources, such as:

- Nexus Mods: A widely trusted and popular platform for gaming mods.

- Dedicated community forums: Explore dedicated modding forums community Discord channels for Icarus modding.

Also, ensure that the mods are compatible with the latest version of Icarus and that they do not conflict with each other! This is crucial for a smooth gaming experience.

Download the Mod Files

Once you have found the mod or mods you want to install, you will need to download the mod files. These mod files typically come in a .zip or .rar archive format. Extract the archive to get the actual mod files, such as .pak files or custom config files.

Locate the Server's Mod Folder

By default, Icarus does not have a specific "Mods" folder, so you will need to create a custom one for your dedicated server.

  1. Open the Nodecraft Pro Panel for your Icarus game server.

  2. Navigate to the Server Files tab.

  3. Locate the following directory:

    /Icarus/Content/Paks
  4. Create a folder named mods within the Paks directory which will store your mods.

Upload the Mods

  1. Extract the mod files from the downloaded archive (usually .zip or .rar).

  2. Upload the extracted .pak file into the mods folder you just created using either FTP or the Upload button within the panel.

If the mod comes with special configuration files, be sure to follow the modder's instructions and upload them to the appropriate directories.

Modify Config Files (If Required)

Some mods may require you to modify server configuration files, such as Game.ini or Engine.ini. These files are located in the Server Files tab in the following directory:

/Icarus/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/

Open the desired configuration file by selecting it and clicking the Edit button. Follow the modder's instructions to input the necessary entries, which could involve adjusting gameplay settings or enabling specific mod features.

Start the Server

Once the mod files are in place and any necessary configuration changes have been made, restart your Icarus server to apply the mods and changes.

Test the Mods

After your Icarus server is back online, join the game to ensure that the mods are working correctly. Make sure to also install the mods onto your game client! Thoroughly test the server to check for compatibility issues, crashes, or other mod-related problems.

Keep Mods Updated

Mods can become incompatible with the base game when updates are released for Icarus. Regularly check for updates to both the game and the mods you have installed. Replace or update mod files if necessary to prevent server crashes or bugs.

That's that! You've successfully installed your mods, and your Icarus server is now primed for a whole new level of gameplay. Whether you're adding new mechanics or just spicing things up, it's time to dive back into the world of Icarus and explore the possibilities. Happy modding and enjoy your next adventure. Afterall, your server, your rules!
