How to Change Your Minecraft Skin | Java Edition
Looking to update your Minecraft character's appearance? Whether you're seeking a fresh Minecraft skin or a cool cape, this guide will show you how to change your Minecraft skin and cape for Minecraft Java Edition.
Changing Your Skin in the Minecraft Launcher
Open the Minecraft Launcher. Make sure you're on the Java Edition portion of the launcher. If you're playing on Bedrock Edition, check out our guide on How to Change Your Skin in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
At the top of the Minecraft Java launcher, click on the 'Skins' tab to access your available Minecraft skins.
Optional: Want to customize your Minecraft character with a new skin? Click the 'New Skin' button and select a skin file from your computer.
Hover over the Minecraft skin you want to use and click the 'Use' button to apply it to your Minecraft character."
Changing Your Skin on Minecraft.net
Go to minecraft.net and log in to your account.
Access your profile by hovering over your account name in the upper right-hand corner and clicking on 'Profile.'
Click on Change Skin under Minecraft: Java Edition.
Select a Minecraft character model (either Steve or Alex) based on your skin file. Remember, the dimensions for Steve and Alex are different, so choose the one that best matches your new Minecraft skin design.
Click 'Select File,' choose your skin file from your computer, and upload it.
Changing Your Cape
Head to minecraft.net and log in to your account.
Just like when you change your Minecraft character skin, hover over your account name and click on 'Profile.'
Click on Change Skin under Minecraft: Java Edition.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you see 'Change Your Cape - PC/Mac.'
Click on the Minecraft cape you want to switch to apply to your Minecraft character, and you're all set!
