How to Locate and Mine Chromite on Feybreak
Chromite is a rare and valuable resource hidden deep within Feybreak Island. It’s required for crafting high-level materials like Hexolite Ore, which unlocks at Technology Level 56. Mining Chromite efficiently requires specific tools or companions, such as a trusty Metal Detector or the keen senses of the new canine Pal, Smokie. This guide explores everything you need to know to track down and harvest this elusive material.
Preparation
Mining Chromite is a crucial step for players aiming to enhance their equipment and push the boundaries of new technologies, ensuring they stay ahead in their journey. To locate and mine Chromite, you have two main options: The Metal Detector or Smokie the Pal. Both options are effective, and you don’t need to have both in order to get started collecting Chromite!
The Metal Detector becomes available at Technology Level 56. Crafting it requires Nightstar Sand, a rare material with an elusive twist. Once you’ve crafted the Metal Detector, it will help you locate Chromite with audible faster beeps and a color change from light blue to red whenever you’re close.

Smokie, on the other hand, is a loyal companion that helps by sniffing out Chromite and marking its location. As Smokie levels up, the yield from Chromite nodes increases. At max level, Smokie can boost your haul up to an impressive 400 Chromite per node, which makes it an outstanding choice if you’re looking to optimize your haul.
Locating Chromite on Feybreak Island
Chromite is most commonly found in the red zones on Feybreak Island. These are marked on the map below as hotspots for this resource. One of the most reliable locations is the cave located at roughly -1200, -1100, known for consistently spawning multiple Chromite nodes.
Note: While the cave’s location is shown on the higher red platform, the entrance of the cave is located on the white platform as shown by the player icon location above and the entrance picture below.
Chromite nodes are small ore deposits with a distinctive flag sticking out of the top. They also emit a subtle smoke-popping effect when nearby, making them easier to locate.
If you are using the Metal Detector, equip it and begin exploring the red zones on Feybreak Island. The detector will emit beeps that increase in frequency as you get closer to a Chromite node and keep an eye out for it to change from the light blue color to red to indicate you’re close in proximity. When the signal is the strongest, look for the characteristic smoke-popping effect of the Chromite node.
If you opt to use Smokie, summon the companion and let it roam your surroundings. Smokie will detect Chromite nodes nearby and mark them for you. Once marked, you can approach the node and mine the Chromite. Smokie’s passive ability increases the amount of Chromite you collect, and this effect grows stronger as Smokie levels up. Be sure that Smokie is out of its Pal Sphere while mining to benefit from its abilities!
Mining Chromite
Mining Chromite is straightforward once you’ve located a node. Each node typically yields 80-90 Chromite, but using Smokie at higher levels can increase this amount significantly. To maximize your efficiency, prioritize mining in dense red zones and focus on areas with multiple nodes, such as the cave at coordinates -1200, -1100.
Conclusion
Chromite is a rare find, and the adventure of tracking it down adds to the excitement of exploring Feybreak Island. With Smokie by your side or the guidance of your Metal Detector, uncovering this hidden treasure can be a truly rewarding experience. Gear up, dive in, and enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Happy mining and give Smokie some ear scratches for us!
