What Will Happen to My Save in Palworld 1.0?

With Palworld 1.0 launching on July 10th, many players are wondering if they’ll need to start over from scratch when the full release arrives.

Will Palworld 1.0 Wipe Saves?

Shortly after the 1.0 announcement, Pocketpair Head of Publishing and Communications John Buckley addressed player concerns directly on the official Palworld Discord.

“You do NOT need to wipe your data for Palworld 1.0,” Buckley said.

That means your existing character, bases, Pals, and world progress should all carry forward into the full release. Pocketpair has stated that players can continue using their current saves if they choose, allowing longtime players to keep the progress they’ve spent hundreds of hours building.

So Why Does Pocketpair Recommend Starting Over?

Buckley’s statement came with an interesting follow-up:

“But you should.”

According to Pocketpair, version 1.0 includes enough changes that a fresh playthrough may provide the best overall experience.

“We believe that starting a new character will give you the best experience of Palworld,” Buckley explained, citing the large number of gameplay changes, mechanic overhauls, and new content arriving with the update.

While veteran players can jump directly into the new content using existing saves, starting fresh allows players to experience the game’s progression as it was designed for full release.

Should You Start a New World?

That depends on what you’re looking for.

If you’ve invested hundreds of hours into your current save, there’s no reason you can’t continue right where you left off. Pocketpair has made it clear that existing saves will remain supported. However, if you want to experience all of the progression changes, new mechanics, and story content naturally, a fresh character may be the better choice.

Many dedicated servers are also expected to perform optional world wipes on launch day, giving communities an opportunity to experience Palworld 1.0 together from the beginning.
