Our fleet is getting a major upgrade with AMD Ryzen processors!

We're incredibly excited to announce that our fleet of nodes powering all Nodecraft customer instances is now over 90% migrated to AMD Ryzen™ / EPYC™ processors!

What does that mean for you?

All the good things. Faster processing means faster servers, ensuring Nodecraft can zoom past your top-of-the-line performance expectations. That Minecraft world where your friend accidentally spawned thousands of chickens and brought your server to a crawl? It might take a few more thousand chickens before that can happen now! 🤣

It also means our nodes can hold more customer instances while still improving performance from previous configurations, which translates to being able to keep prices as low as possible, despite inflation and ever growing costs. While prices rise everywhere else, we're finding ways to keep prices stable and introduce more cost-friendly solutions like Nodecraft Lite.

My server isn't using Ryzen yet, what's up?

Don't worry, our entire fleet will be migrated! If you're not on a Ryzen yet, it's coming! Migrating the fleet in stages helps us to be able to make improvements like this while disrupting players as little as possible. Folks who are already on the new processors may have never even noticed downtime due to our scheduling. Your turn is coming, promise!

What exactly is a Ryzen processor anyways, and why should I care?

Ryzen processors (and their server-focused siblings, EPYC) are AMD's flagship high-performance line of CPUs (Central Processing Units). This is the brain of any computer, servers included, and a faster and more modern one generally results in better performance, as well as power efficiency.

AMD's revolutionary Zen architecture allows AMD to pack more processing cores onto each chip, making each core faster, but also while being incredibly power efficient compared to older designs. Paired with many other upgrades we're slowly making with the addition of faster RAM, introduction of NVMe storage, etc. Specifically, we're utilising the follow CPU models, varying with availability in different regions:

  • AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X

  • AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X3D

  • AMD EPYC™ 4584PX

In the server world, AMD's EPYC chips have been making huge waves, challenging Intel's long-held dominance by offering impressive core counts and fantastic performance-per-watt, and their Ryzen line has been incredibly exciting for gaming performance with their outstanding single core performance. This efficiency is key in datacenters, allowing us to deliver more computing power fto all game servers – which, as we mentioned, helps us keep costs down for everyone! Ultimately, for you, these upgrade translate directly into a smoother, faster, and more responsive gaming experience on Nodecraft.
