Different World/Level Types in Minecraft

As Minecraft has matured and developed, it has started to support many different and interesting world types, rather than the the standard, default generation. These world types customize and configure the world generation of the server, and can be configured even further using generator settings.

Vanilla World Types

World Type Description
Default This is the default Minecraft world generation utilizing standard Vanilla Minecraft biomes.
Superflat This type of generation creates a world that is completely flat, at an altitude of Y=4, by default. It consists of several presets: Classic, Tunnelers' Dream, Water World, Overworld, Snowy Kingdom, Bottomless Pit, Desert, Redstone Ready, and The Void.
Large Biomes This world type uses the default world generation, however increases each geographic feature to occupy 4 times as many blocks per axis, which results in larger biomes (16 times larger).
Amplified This world type is an "amplified" variant of the default generation. It requires significantly more resources to generate, however can produce much taller, mountain-like terrain (skyland-like).
Custom This world type allows for highly customizable terrain, utilizing generator settings. This provides an extremely powerful set of features, however can be difficult to configure.

Further details can be found on the Minecraft wiki.

World Type Description
Biomes O’ Plenty (BIOMESOP) This world type utilizes the Biome generation from Biomes O’ Plenty, and the many additional Biomes it provides.
Garden Of Glass (botania-skyblock) This world type generates a sky-block like map, suitable for some fantastic modpacks such as FTB Infinity Evolve, skyblock edition.
Realistic Terrain Generation (RTG) This world type generates “realistic” terrain.
Quark Realistic Alongside Amplified or Large Biomes, "Realistic" is a new world type that creates semi-realistic terrain. Expect rolling hills and very tall mountains. The cloud height is increased to 260 in this world type.
