With the building anticipation of Hytale, many are wondering what platforms will be supported at its Early Access launch. Hypixel Studios has clarified exactly where players can play and why some platforms are arriving later than others.
If you’re wondering whether you’re ready, here is the official breakdown of which platforms will be available during the EA launch.
PC (Windows) at launch
For the initial Early Access launch, Hytale will support Windows PCs! However, there is a significant catch for players of Valve’s storefront, Steam. The game will not be available on Steam at the start. There are a few reasons for this, such as the developers wanting its launcher kept "closer to the community" overusing a 3rd party launcher. Another major reason behind this decision is at current per the dev team “Steam currently doesn’t support some of our modding features” but they are going to try and open communications with Valve/Steam to try and see if there will ever be a possibility to bring Hytale to the Steam platform at some point.
Other PC Platforms (MacOS/Linux)
Hytale supports macOS and Linux outright through its official launcher!
Players on both operating systems will be able to download, install, and run the game without emulation, compatibility layers, or third-party tools. Hypixel Studios has confirmed that the launcher itself is designed to work across all major desktop operating systems, ensuring that macOS and Linux users are included from the Early Access period onward.
As with most Early Access titles, feature polish and performance may evolve over time, but macOS and Linux are supported PC platforms, so rejoice!
Non-PC Platforms
If you were hoping to explore Hytale from your couch or on the go, you’ll need to be patient. In its EA stage, it will not be available on any console (PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch). However, a console release as well as a mobile version is planned for later in the game's lifecycle but there is no timeframe as of now.
